WP2: Primary separation

Within workpackage ''Primary separation'' we will develop cell separations based on flocculation, depth filtration, tangential flow filtration (TFF) and alternate flow filtration (ATF) rather than disc stack centrifugation. This approach reduces capital costs for equipment as well as reduce the impurity burden for subsequent process units by pre-purifying the initial material without adding a process step. Additionally flocculation and filtration can be operated continuously, either by simple parallelization (for depth filtration), or included in perfusion culture (for ATF and TFF) enabling fully continuous integrated bio-manufacturing. Novel technologies developed in this work package will be tested at small and pilot scale and evaluated for their economic viability. WP2 is led by University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna.
